Barnabas Fortune Collected Writings - Publication Design

A collection of writings and poems done by my late grandfather, Barnabas J. Ramon Fortune, collected, designed and bound by myself as part of my thesis project while studying at Drexel University.

In his cornucopia of poetry written in the period from his youth to his twilight years, the he emptied himself of his most intimate and personal experiences and painted the local scenes of Trinidad and Tobago in colors and fineness of line that has caused him to be regarded as one of the pioneers of poetry in Trinidad and Tobago, and one of the finest in the West Indies. Through this project I had to tackle the challenge of not just finding a way to represent the culture and life of 1920s - 1970s Trinidad and Tobago through design, color and type, but also figure out how to do it through the lens of my own grandfather, and use design decisions that best conveyed the way he viewed the world around him.
